Women of Faith in the Bible
My wife and I recently discussed the fact that men are more prominent in
the Bible than women. Clearly this is
true, and the Bible certainly came from very patriarchal society. But there are a number of women that we read
about in the Bible, many of whom are indeed great models of faith for us to follow. I’ve take on the challenge to see what kind
of list I can come up with of those women. I’m confining my list to those who were righteous and whose name is actually given. Here are 35 that I found, with a brief quotation or description of each:
1.
Eve, “the mother of all living” (Genesis 3:20)
2.
Sarah, the wife of Abraham, of whom it was said, “the Lord
visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken”
(Genesis 21:1)
3.
Hagar, the other wife of Abraham, who was visited by “the angel
of God” and promised that through her son would be “a great nation” (Genesis
21:17-18)
4.
Milcah, who “hath born children unto [Abraham’s] brother Nahor”;
she was the grandmother of Rebekah (Genesis 22:20)

family and go with the servant of Abraham to marry his son, saying simply, “I

favoured” and whom Jacob “served seven years” (Genesis 29:17,20)

gave to Jacob as his wife and also one of the mothers of the tribes of
Israel (Genesis 30:4)
